On the Acceptance of Activists from the Lebanese Communist Party
for Training in Military Educational Institutions of the Ministry of

Defense

In accord with the Soviet Ambassador to the Republic of Lebanon (spec[ial] no. 70), the General Secretary of the CC of the Lebanese Communist Party (LCP), George Hawi, sent a request concerning the acceptance of up to 170 activists of the LCP for training courses in the USSR for a period of 3-5 months every year.

The Ministry of Defense is submitting a proposal to give its consent to the acceptance of up to 50 activists of the LCP for annual training in military educational institutions of the Ministry of Defense in 1985-1987 and for periods in agreement with the leadership of the LCP for the training in the use, application, and repairs of weapons and military technology delivered by the LCP. As earlier, the training of LCP activists is to be underwritten appropriately by the Soviet Union.

This has been coordinated with the State Committee for Foreign Economic Relations of the USSR (Comrade M. [second initial illegible] Sergeichik) and the Ministry of Finances of the USSR (Comrade V. V. Dementsev).

The draft of the resolution of the CC CPSU is attached.
