Subject to return to the International Department of the CC CPSU Concerning the Request of the Egyptian Communist Party Leadership
Member of the leadership of the Egyptian Communist Party, Rifaat Said (in fact, the top man in the party) has submitted a request that shortterm (up to two weeks) special training on the question of ensuring the security of the party be organized for him during his stay in the Soviet Union on vacation in July 1988 (coded KGB telegram from the city of Cairo, special no. 491 dated 6 May 1988).
We would consider it possible to satisfy this request. The reception and servicing of R. Said in the Soviet Union could be entrusted to the International Department and the Directorate of Affairs of the CC CPSU, and the special training—to the Committee of State Security of the USSR. This has been coordinated with the first deputy chairman of the Committee of State Security of the USSR, V. N. Kriuchkov, and the Directorate of Affairs of the CC CPSU.
The draft of the CC CPSU resolution is attached.
